We chose to use the Yamaha F25 25 hp 4-stroke engine configured with short shaft, remote controls and electric start. This engine has proven to be quiet and efficient so far. However, it is quite a bit larger than the Honda for which original handybilly plans were drawn. Below are two drawings showing motor well dimensions which will accommodate the Yamaha. While the Yamaha is a two-cylinder and hence is quite low, allowing for an attractive low-profile hatch, the chassis is quite long, so to allow for it's swing, it must be quite broad and long. As drawn below, the well is still not quite wide enough to accommodate the motor's entire swing, yet the travel of the teleflex steering unit specified is considerably less (yet more than adequate) and will allow the motor to be steered from lock to lock without obstruction or interference.
